A bitter sweet weekend
Lombok, 20 March 2022 : So many difficulties and hard moments are finally just a bad memory for Stefano Nepa who, thanks to an incessant work with the team and endless attempts to find the right set-up of the bike, is able to find that feeling that by now had been missing for a while. So after a Warm Up, which ended in sixth position and a good omen for the day, the moment has come for which we have worked so hard: the race. A good start immediately allows the Abruzzese rider to recover immediately and with the right concentration, he recovers up to the leading group, even if the conditions are quite difficult and extreme, because by now he has the confidence to pull off hard and be in control in every situation.
After half the race, however, he has a race contact with another driver that cost him several seconds, shattering the incredible comeback made up to that point. In any case, Stefano Nepa with three laps to go does not lose sight of the Top 10 and continues to run with one goal: to recover the ground lost by fighting against Kelso. However, at the last corner the opponent’s bike loses the rear, hindering the trajectory of the Angeluss MTA Racing Team rider and ending the race with an early corner.
“During the Warm Up I found the feeling that I had been looking for for a long time and that allowed me to have the right confidence to get back into the race and it was really a shame to finish a good comeback at the last corner, after a difficult weekend even more than Qatar. . But now we have to look to Argentina and try to start well on Friday, having found that feeling that will allow me to be ready right away. “
Even for Iván Ortola , it was not an easy weekend. He gained a lot of experience and tried to find the right set-up to have enough confidence in the bike, but the track conditions certainly didn’t help. In fact, this morning the track was dry, upsetting the work done so far, mostly in the wet. However, the team manages to find the right place, adapting the bike based on Friday’s FP2, the moment in which the Spaniard signed his fastest lap. Yet, not even the time to start the race that a small mistake forces the driver with the number 48 to finish the race.
“I didn’t get a good start and four or five passed me. I tried to catch them before the second corner, where I braked at the same point, but arriving slightly faster, I braked slightly heavier and my front closed.
I apologize to the team and we are already starting to think about Argentina, which is just around the corner. ”
As well as the whole weekend, Alessandro Tonucci , team manager of Angeluss MTA Racing returns to Europe with a bit of bitterness.
“It is true that with Iván we did a few laps in the dry and the track condition was much more slippery than usual, as well as very very hot; therefore, the error can occur starting a little back. With Stefano, on the other hand, a change was made that gave him much more confidence and we start from an important technical awareness because he has much more confidence in driving. Too bad that in the middle of the race a driver threw him out just as he was in the leading group, then in the end, it was a disappointment to see him knocked down like that. Luckily we will leave for another race in a week! ”
